Men's Trouser Size Guide India: How to Measure Waist, Length & Fit

Quick answer: Men's trouser sizes in India are the waist measurement in inches (28, 30, 32, 34, 36 and so on). Measure around your natural waist where you normally wear your trousers, keep the tape snug but not tight, and pick that number. If you fall between two sizes, choose the bigger size for high-waist, pleated and wide-leg styles, and the smaller size only if the trouser has stretch or an adjustable waist.

What you need

A soft measuring tape and, ideally, a trouser that already fits you well.

Step 1: Measure your waist

  • Stand straight and breathe normally.
  • Wrap the tape around where your trouser waistband usually sits (for high-waist trousers, measure about 1–2 inches above the navel).
  • Keep one finger between the tape and your body. Note the number in inches.

Step 2: Measure your hip

Measure around the fullest part of your seat. This matters for slim and bootcut fits, where the hip and thigh are more fitted.

Step 3: Measure your length

  • Outseam: from the top of the waistband down the side of the leg to where you want the hem to end.
  • Inseam: from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside of the leg.

Most Davanchy pants come in a standard 42-inch length (outseam). On products with a “Pant Length” option, you can choose a custom length for ₹100 extra.

Measure a trouser that already fits

Lay your best-fitting trouser flat, button it, and measure straight across the waistband. Double that number for your waist size. Then measure the outseam from waistband to hem.

How the fit changes by style

Style How it fits Size advice
Bootcut Fitted hip and thigh, opens from knee True to waist size
High-waist pleated / Gurkha Sits above navel, roomy thigh Measure at the higher waist point
Wide-leg / flare Relaxed through the leg True to size; size up if between sizes
Elastic or adjustable waist Flexes about 1–2 inches Choose the nearer size

Common fit problems

  • Gap at the back of the waist: try a size down or a style with an adjustable waist.
  • Tight at the thigh: choose a pleated, Gurkha or wide-leg style.
  • Too long: choose the custom length option, or a local tailor can hem it.
